Merry is an agri-tech startup that is building an advisory app for Indian cotton farmers. We help farmers collect and share knowledge, building on our core belief that every farmer is smart on their own, but one million farmers are smarter together.
Problem
Indian cotton yields are horribly low
Indian cotton farmers harvest only about a third as much cotton per acre as farmers in Brazil, China or Australia. These low yields lead to low incomes and a slew of social issues like farmer poverty, farmer suicide and adverse environmental impacts.
While some experts claim that the Indian cotton yield gap is a result of weather, mechanization or lack of education, it is our strong belief that the main reason for poor Indian farm yields is a lack of information. Farmers are smart, but they make poor decisions for their crop in absence of easily accessible and actionable data.
Existing solutions don't work
There has never been an easily accessible, actionable and trustworthy source of data for Indian farmers. Historic solutions have all focused on "top down" advisory, in which experts, like university professors, host extension trainings or radio shows. These approaches are a great first step, but they always fail to scale. There are simply not enough experts to provide accurate, localized agri information to India's 100 million smallholder farmers.

Our App
We empower farmer data sharing
The Merry farmer app is built on the belief that every farmer is smart on their own, but that one million farmers are smarter together. Rather than pursuing "top-down" advisory, we have built a "bottom-up" farmer network that puts agency back in farmers' hands.
Our app contains a modern, digital farm diary that empowers farmers to take charge of their own farm data. Once farmers save their data in the app, we automatically share it with other farmers in their social network, and we use aggregated farmer data to provide meaningful, localized insights for others in their community.
